how to make a website like this
You may think you've just found the best travel site on the internet - or the worst, but at least simon heptinstall's travels is not the same as all the other travel websites.
And it's mine, all mine! That means I wrote it all, designed every page, made every decision and posted all the photos myself. It has taken hours of trial and error to even get to this chaotic pile of nonsense you've got in front of you now. But I haven't paid a web-designer, writer or photo library anything.... and I've kept total control over what's on simonheptinstall.com/ Do you fancy doing the same? You can make a website like this for nothing more than some hours at your keyboard. Here's how: 1 Register for free at weebly.com/ I've checked out dozens of web-making sites and weebly is the best by a long way. They're not paying me to say that. 2 Decide whether you want to pay for a more prestigious sounding site name like simonheptinstall.com (mine was about £50 for three years)- or simply use the free name weebly will give you, which will be something like yourname.weebly.com/ 3 Choose your website page design from the hundreds they've got as prepared templates. 4 Start putting content on by using their built-in software. It's a free system of dragging boxes onto a page grid then uploading or pasting content into the boxes. Experiment and use the excellent support pages. It's fiddly at first. I've been doing mine for ages and I still keep finding new things. 5 Click on 'publish' and then rush to find your site online. It's so exciting you'll keep going to visit your own pages over and over again...   My three top tips Publish as soon as you've got anything on a page and have a look at it online. It always looks different from the weebly layout page. Drag custom HTML boxes from weebly onto your pages. Then start an account for free with Google Adsense and fill your HTML boxes with google ads. They may make you a few pence but you may as well start making money as soon as you can. Publicise your site on twitter, facebook and by putting a link as your 'signature' at the bottom of all your emails. |
